Education for Sustainable Development in Cameroon
Community-Engaged Research Workshop and 3rd African RCE Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria
Green Cameroon’s Director, also Director of RCE Buea will be representing Cameroon in the Community-Engaged Research Workshop and 3rd African RCE Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria
The United Nations, through its Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005 – 2014), identifies research and innovation as one of the strategies for implementing the vision of ESD. Research and community engagement in addressing sustainability issues are key priorities of higher education institutions and Regional Centres of Expertise (RCEs). As members of the RCE network, some African universities are directly contributing to research and innovation through community engagement work.
The UNU-IAS in collaboration with the National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria and RCE Minna will run the above-mentioned workshop from 20-21 August 2013 in Abuja, Nigeria. The event brings together actors from African RCEs and Nigerian Universities to examine the role of higher education in enabling research and community engagement for sustainable development. The workshop will be used to convene the 3rd African RCE continental meeting to deliberate issues related to RCE development and collaborative community-engaged research projects. The Director of Green Cameroon upon his return from this meeting will convene a workshop where he will pass on the conference material and out comes to all RCE Buea members and interested stakeholders.
